Tikis spoil Aeros’ home-opener – Recorder & Times

Athens scored first, but the visitors picked up the victory.

Brockville defeated the Aeros 3-1 in their CCHL2 home-opener Saturday night. The Tikis had a chance to take an early lead when captain Ryan Glazer was awarded a penalty shot, but he was stopped by Athens netminder Matthew Maas. Jesse McCoy gave the Aeros the lead at 14:22 of the first period. Colin Stacey tied the game at 15:40 and then scored the eventual game-winner midway through the second. Glazer gave the Tikis a two-goal lead at 2:34 of the third.

Shot totals were unavailable. Nicholas Ciccarelli picked up the win in goal for Brockville in front of a modest crowd at Centre 76.

Maas had been named third star the previous night when he made 57 saves in the Aeros’ 4-1 loss in Perth. Reid Johnston had Athens’ lone goal; the Blue Wings outshot the Aeros 61-16.

Athens (0-2) will play in Carleton Place on Tuesday night at 7:20. The schedule had originally indicated the game was to start at 8:15,

The Tikis had opened the weekend with a 4-3 loss in Arnprior on Friday night. The Packers had a 3-2 lead early in the third period when Joseph Marabella’s second goal of the game and third of the season for Brockville tied the score. James Buckley’s short-handed goal at 7:52 of the third was the difference.

Zach White scored the Tikis’ other goal and assisted on both of Marabella’s goals; White was named third star. Brockville had a 36-35 edge in shots; Ciccarelli took the loss in net for the Tikis.

Brockville (1-2) hosts Alexandria at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
