The bad news for the Brockville Tikis on Wednesday night was that they took a lot of penalties and gave up three power-play goals to Arnprior.

The good news was the home team scored twice short-handed, which helped the Tikis edge the Packers 5-4 at the Memorial Centre. The win moved Brockville into sole possession of fourth place in the CCHL2’s Richardson Division.

Colin Stacey’s 15th goal of the season gave the Tikis an early lead 50 seconds into the game. Taysean Smith’s first goal of the regular season came on a power-play at 11:17 of the first period to give Brockville a 2-0 lead. Smith made it 3-0 on a shorty at 7:17 of the second, and Vincent Huot-Orellana’s first of the season came two minutes later and gave the Tikis a four-goal lead.

Arnprior got on the board just over two minutes later on Quinn Vanhoof’s seventh goal of the season. He scored his second of the night three minutes into the third period to make it 4-2. A short-handed goal by Marcus Arabe 50 seconds later gave Brockville a three-goal lead; it was his sixth of the year.

The Packers made it interesting late in regulation. Kai Nicholson scored with 1:18 left in the third, and Vanhoof made it a hat trick with eight seconds left on the clock after Arnprior had pulled its goalie. Brockville managed to hang on for a one-goal victory.

Arabe, Smith and Vanhoof were named first, second and third stars respectively. Arnprior outshot the Tikis 48-37, including 22-9 in the third period. Brayden Kelso picked up the win in net for Brockville.

The Tikis (8-6-1-1) will host Ottawa next Wednesday, Nov. 13.
