The Tikis had a slight edge in shots, but the Rideaus were able to do more with their chances.

Westport scored four times in the opening period and went on to defeat Brockville 6-2 in their CCHL2 regular season opener at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday. Sean James and Blake Kettyle had four-point nights for the visitors, who were outshot 40-39.

Zach White of the Tikis opened the scoring at 3:32 of the first period, but Tye Carswell tied the game 25 seconds later. Brock Boisclair gave the Rideaus the lead at 7:07, and Owen Watson made it 3-1 at 14:35. James’ first goal of the game came with about three-and-a-half minutes left in the opening frame.

Brockville’s starting goaltender, Brayden Kelso, was replaced by Nicholas Ciccarelli to start the second period.

The Tikis racked up 20 shots on net in the second; the lone goal was scored by Joseph Marabella at 10:17. The game remained 4-2 until late in the third, when James padded the lead at 15:15. His short-handed marker with 2:01 left in regulation gave James a hat trick.

James and Kettyle were named first and second stars respectively. Marabella received the third-star honour. Kaleb Griffin picked up the win in net for Westport.

Opening night attendance was listed at 146.

The Tikis play in Arnprior on Friday night and visit Centre 76 for Athens’ home-opener on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Aeros open the regular season in Perth on Friday night.

Westport hosts Casselman on Friday at 8 p.m.
