The Brockville Tikis are trying to pull away from the middle of the pack.
Brockville dropped a 4-3 decision to Char-Lan at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday night. The Tikis were outshot by a wide margin by the visiting Rebels, but Brockville still had a chance to tie the game late in the third period and force overtime.
The Rebels scored the lone goal of the opening period. Brad Arnott’s third of the season for Brockville tied the game early in the second period. Tanner Flood gave the home team a 2-1 lead at 7:43 of the middle frame; it was his second goal of the year. Char-Lan tied the score just over two minutes later and took a 3-2 lead 53 seconds into the third.
Kale MacCormick got the game-winner for the Rebels at 6:57 of the third. Down 4-2, the Tikis pulled goaltender Nicholas Ciccarelli with about three-and-a-half minutes to play in regulation. Tyler Toomey cut the lead in half with his 11th goal of the season at 16:44 of the third. Ciccarelli was again pulled for the extra attacker, but Brockville was unable to score the equalizer.
Ciccarelli made 40 saves for the Tikis, who were outshot 46-28.
MacCormick was named first star. Brockville’s Francesco Sicoli, an affiliate player who picked up an assist, was named second star; third star went to Hunter MacPherson of Char-Lan.
It was Char-Lan’s 10th win in 22 games. Brockville (13-9-1-1) played in Casselman on Thursday night. The game had not been completed as of press time.
The Tikis are in third place in the CCHL’s Richardson Division. They were one point up on Perth and two ahead of Renfrew before Thursday’s game. Brockville trailed division-leading Westport and Carleton Place by five points.
The Tikis’ next game is at home against Perth on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
