CCHL2: Tikis ride Whitewater – Recorder & Times

The Brockville Tikis are back in third place in the CCHL2’s Richardson Division.

The Jr. B Tikis scored the first three goals at the Memorial Centre on Sunday and hung on to defeat Whitewater 4-2. Brad Arnott’s second goal of the season gave Brockville a 1-0 lead at 14:22 of the opening period. Joshua Stryzek made it 2-0 for the Tikis on a power play at 3:39 of the second; it was his second goal of the year. Dylan Rothstein’s first goal of the season added to Brockville’s lead eight minutes into the middle frame.

The Kings got back into the game in the third on goals by Sean Tallon at 6:06 and Dan Duggan at 12:38. Whitewater pulled its goalie with 1:15 left in regulation; Tyler Toomey scored his 10th goal of the year into the empty net with 13 seconds to go.

Rothstein was named first star. The second star was Brockville netminder Nicholas Ciccarelli, who made 31 saves in the victory. Tallon was named third star. The Kings outshot the Tikis 33-25.

Brockville (13-8-1-1) will host Char-Lan at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.

The Athens Aeros remain winless on the season, but they did manage to pick up a point in Winchester on Friday night. The Aeros led 3-1 in the third period on goals by Kohle McCulloch, Malcolm MacDonald and Nolan Brien. The Hawks tied the game and forced overtime; Ty White scored at 3:02 of the extra frame to give Winchester a 4-3 victory. Justin Lafrance made 50 saves in a losing effort for Athens and was named third star.

The Aeros hosted Renfrew on Saturday night. Eric Gough opened the scoring for Athens at 9:27 of the first, but the Timberwolves led 2-1 at intermission and scored four in a row before Gough’s second of the game at 14:21 of the third made it 6-2. He was named third star.

The Aeros (0-21-1-1) play in Arnprior on Friday night.
